National Guard Reenlistment Bonus Class Action
Investigating a class action lawsuit in behalf of National Guard veterans who accepted reenlistment bonuses and have received collection notice to pay them back. As the result of a shortage of combat-ready troops in Afghanistan and Iraq, the Department of Defense offered National Guard soldiers bonuses of $10,000 or more to reenlist. The National Guard Bureau, an agency of the Department of Defense, is now demanding repayment of the bonuses, charging interest payments, and threatening wage garnishments and tax liens. The Bureau also acknowledged that it overpaid bonuses in every state at the height of the program. Over 100,000 state National Guard members received bonuses that they could be forced to repay, despite the fact that the bonuses were paid upwards of ten years ago. If you are a National Guard veteran who accepted a combat bonus and received a collection notice for repayment of the bonus from the Department of Treasury, please contact us. |
