Extendicare Nursing Home Investigation
Investigating claims on behalf of residents in an Extendicare nursing home facility. Extendicare, one of the largest nursing home chains, owns about 150 homes in 11 states. Extendicare recently agreed to a $38 million settlement with the Department of Justice to resolve federal claims that it inappropriately billed for physical therapy and provided poor care to its residents. Federal officials alleged that Extendicare failed to hire enough trained nurses to care for the patients in 33 of its homes. As a result, there was “pervasive” problems, including failing to prevent serious falls and head injuries and failing to prevent bedsores. Officials said the care was so inadequate, that some patients became malnourished and dehydrated and developed infections leading to unnecessary hospitalizations. If you or someone you know was a resident at an Extendicare nursing home facility and required an unnecessary hospitalization as the result of understaffing, please contact us. |
