Investigating a potential class action lawsuit against Centerpoint Medical Center for charging excess fees to patients requesting electronic copies of their medical records to be burned to a CD. A patient has indicated that he was charged $58.77 to duplicate 52 pages of electronic medical records. Included in the fee was a $0.56 per page copying charge which was not applicable since the records were transmitted from one electronic medium to another; scanning and photocopying did not occur with his request. It is further alleged that the Missouri Merchandising Practices Act states that a $6.50 flat fee is the maximum to be charged to a patient requesting medical records to be duplicated from one electronic medium to another.
