ELECTRONIC KEY SYSTEMS

Investigating a potential lawsuit related to electronic key systems on certain vehicles that may not comply with the safety standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), or that may otherwise be unsafe.  An electronic key system is a feature associated with the push-button start and stop buttons on newer vehicles that do not use traditional metal keys.  NHTSA is currently investigating whether this feature meets applicable safety standards related to rollaway prevention, and whether there are any visual or audible alerts displayed in certain situations (such as when the car is turned off with the transition not in the park gear, or when the engine is not shut off).  There have reportedly been several carbon monoxide related deaths linked to electronic key systems. NHTSA reportedly sent investigatory letters to Toyota, Ford, General Motors LLC, Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Motor Co., Nissan North America Inc. and Subaru of America Inc.

If you have suffered an injury related to a vehicle’s electronic key system, please contact us.
